Flathead Sled Dog Days
Dog mushers from Canada, Utah, Montana, Colorado, Washington, and Idaho
are scheduled to compete in the Third Annual Flathead Sled Dog Days, January 8-10, 2010.

The vet check will be held on January 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish. School groups and the general public are invited to watch the dogs receive examinations prior to the race weekend.

On January 9 and 10 at 9:30 a.m., teams will leave the Olney Trailhead, just off Highway 93 at mile marker 145.5 across from the Olney turn-off. The public is invited to cheer the mushers as they leave the starting chute and watch them return to the finish line. An awards ceremony will be held on the race site immediately after the last team finishes.

This year’s race is dedicated to Dr. Hugh Rodgers, DVM, who lost his life in an airplane crash earlier this year. Dr. Rodgers was instrumental in helping start Flathead Sled Dog Days and was the head vet for the previous two years of the event.

“Dog mushers have grown to rely on sled dog veterinarians to help with the care of their dogs ensuring a safe race and healthy dogs,” said Brooke Bohannon. “They are an integral part of any dog sled race.”
